CURRENT PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITIES
LOS ANGELES COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT, Director, Bureau Operations, E.S.S.B {2011-present}
Acting Director, Bureau Operations, E.S.S.B. {2009- 2011} responsible for planning, organizing, and directing, the operations of a major bureau (Employee Support Services Bureau) within the Department, through subordinate managers, supervisors, and other specialized subordinate personnel.  Direct development and implementation of management controls and review systems for managing bureau operations effectively.  Preparation, administration, and control of the Bureau’s budget including the review and analysis of budget requests and personnel acquisition, prepare and revise recommendations in accordance with Bureau priorities.  Manage and supervise Sworn and Professional Bureau personnel.  Conduct and/or review performance evaluations of all Bureau personnel.  Serve as an ex-officio member of EPC and as an advisor to the Sheriff.  

Assistant Director, Bureau Operations, E.S.S.B. {2004- 2009} responsible for planning, organizing, and directing, the operations of a major bureau (Employee Support Services Bureau) within the Department, through subordinate supervisors and other specialized subordinate personnel.  Direct development and implementation of management controls and review systems for managing bureau operations effectively.  Assist in preparation, administration, and control of the Bureau’s budget including the review and analysis of budget requests, prepare and revise recommendations in accordance with Bureau priorities.  Prepare major elements of the Bureau’s budget, particularly related to personnel acquisition.  Manage and supervise the majority of Bureau personnel and conduct their annual performance evaluations.  Act as the Bureau Director in the latter’s absence.   

Assistant Director, Employee Support Services Bureau {1999- 2004} responsible for directing and supervising the activities {as noted below} of Law Enforcement Psychologists as well as the activities of a variety of support staff classifications.  Direct the overall Bureau operations in the absence of the Director.  Recruit and train professional psychological and support staff.  Develop, prepare, and monitor program budgets within the Bureau.  Recommend funding priorities to the Director and monitor the allocation of resources and expenditures in a manner consistent with those priorities.  Advise management of the Department, at the executive level, on a wide range of organizational and personnel issues relevant to accomplishing Department-wide goals and objectives.  Authorize and direct 24 hour emergency responding by Bureau psychologists under a variety of highly stressful and/or dangerous conditions.   Monitor compliance of all Bureau civilian and sworn personnel with regard to all Department policies and procedures.
       
Law Enforcement Psychologist {1997- 99} responsible for providing direct patient care to Department employees and families, including standard and specialized psychological assessments and evaluations, individual, marital, and family therapy, based on a brief solution oriented treatment model.  Perform critical incident debriefings for Department personnel involved in on/off duty shootings, dangerous or serious crime situations, and other traumatic incidents.  Provide 24 hour “on-call” crisis intervention services during and after critical incidents and under highly stressful and/or dangerous conditions.  Provide consultation and other assistance to Department management and administration regarding approaches to crime specific and/or law enforcement related problems.  Function as a member of the Employee Support Services Bureau psychological team, planning and providing counseling and treatment programs in response to a wide variety of client needs in both clinical and organizational settings.  Conduct relevant research, develop and present comprehensive training programs, workshops, and lectures in areas that promote personal wellness, enhance management and administrative practices, and facilitate accomplishing the law enforcement mission.  Provide on-scene consultation to the Hostage Negotiation Team.
